BASE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) to collaborate on supporting airports in implementing Cooling as a Service (CaaS) to accelerate the adoption of energy efficient and clean cooling technologies.
ACI is the only worldwide professional association representing the interest of airport operators worldwide. Founded in 1991, today ACI Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC), which is that region’s branch of ACI, has more than 270 member airports in 34 countries, representing 95 per cent of commercial air traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean, with more than 600 million passengers, 9 million aircraft movements and 5.4 million tonnes of freight per year. ACI’s mission is to provide support for a secure, stable, efficient and environmentally compatible airport system.
With this collaboration, the selected solutions (which includes Cooling as a Service) will support the reduction of energy consumption of airports, while improving their carbon footprint, and increasing the quality and safety of the air within their infrastructures. “As airports are gradually re-opening through the pandemic, the safety and well-being of their customers, along with tackling climate change and energy efficiency, are their utmost priority,” says Dimitris Karamitsos, Senior Business Developer at BASE,

At the same time, airports worldwide are working towards reducing emissions and operating in an environmentally sustainable way. This is why partnering with BASE makes a lot of sense, and the concepts they are developing, like CaaS and servitisation should be considered by our members. Working towards operating cost reductions whilst achieving environmental sustainability is an unbeatable win-win proposition.” says Dr. Echevarne.
BASE and ACI-LAC will collaborate to optimise the CaaS contractual arrangements to the needs of the airports. “Airports are complex and large infrastructures, which will greatly benefit from sustainable, energy efficient solutions. The ‘as a Service’ model’s strong value proposition enables the access of cost-performance appealing technologies without the risks that are sometimes associated with innovation towards end-users,” explains Karamitsos.
